Asala Gajanayaka, a grade 7 student of S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela invented an automatic hand sanitizer by combining inexpensive material and the Arduino programming language.

The middle school supervisor, Mrs. Maheeka Gunasekera and class teacher Ms. Chathurangi Bandara commended the student for his outstanding invention and stressed that Asala was an intelligent and hard working student.

Asala's invention was also shown to His Excellency President Gotabaya Rajapaska in Badulla and was televised in the national news station.

Prior to this invention, Asala also successfully produced an automated handwriting machine.
