Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held amongst a large gathering at the Keble Memorial Hall on Sunday, December 3rd, 2017. The Christmas message was delivered by Ven. Samuel Ponniah, Archdeacon of Jaffna.

Career Guidance Programme for Mathematics Students
A Career Guidance Programme was held for the A/L Mathematics students of S. Thomas College, Bandarawela on November 13th, 2017 from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the University of Moratuwa. The programme was conducted by Dr. Udaya Chinthaka Jayatilake of the Department of Mathematics.
The Badulla District Youth Chess Championship 2017/2018
The Badulla District Youth Chess Championship 2017/2018, organised by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka was held at S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela on November 4th, 2017.
The following students of STC Bandarawela performed exceptionally well:
• Nilupul Kumaranga (First place, under 17 Open)
• Isira Adithya Weerasinghe (First place, under 15)
• Nethul Sasnith Gawarammana (First place, under 13)
• Dileepa Dilshan Dissanayake (Second place, under 15)
• Thevindu Perera (Third place, under 15)
• Nidula Nemitha Nawasinghe (Third place, under 11)
These students will also take part at the All Island Chess Federation Tournament on December 26th at D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo.
Laptops awarded to best O/L students
Five students from S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela were awarded laptops by Hon. Chamara Sampath Dasanyake, the Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council in recognition of their outstanding results at the GCE (O/L) Examination in December 2016. The Awards Ceremony was held on November 7th, 2017 at the Library Auditorium, Badulla. The five students were Hirusha Shehan Weerasinghe, D.N. Chandrasena, H.V.C. Liyanage, Shaheen Suhail Seneviratne and H.M.N.D. Herath (not present in the photograph).
Inaugural Thomian Relay Championship
The Inaugural Thomian Relay Championship was held at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia on October 21st, 2017. Athletes from STC Bandarawela (STCB), STC Mt Lavinia (STCML), STC Gurutalawa (STCG) and STP Kollupitiya (STPK) participated at this event.
The boys at S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela performed exceptionally well and emerged Champions! The final results were as follows:
STCB - 76 Points
STCML - 54 Points
STPK - 46 Points
STCG - 08 Points
STCB emerged winners in the following events:
Under 13: 4x50m Relay, 4x100m Relay
Under 15: 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay, Medly Relay
Under 17: Medly Relay
English Literature Workshop
Ms. Kamala Wijeratne conducted a workshop at this institution on October 19th and 20th for students of Grade 10 and 11 who follow Appreciation of English Literary Texts. Ms. Kamala Wijeratne is an educationist in the field of English and a creative writer with a wide experience in ELT curriculum design, teacher education, and materials design who has specialization is teaching literature in TESL-TEFL situations. Her poetry is well-known and she was awarded the State Literary Prize for poetry in 2004 for her anthology entitled Millennium Poems.
Astromatix Day
The Mathematical Society in collaboration with the Astronomical and Aviation Society conducted the "Astromatix Day" on 13th October 2017 at the Keble Memorial Hall. Professor R.U. Halwathura, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Teachers' Day
Many nations across the world celebrate Teachers' Day to coincide with World Teachers' Day. Here at STCB, Teacher's Day was observed on October 6, 2017. Celebration were held across the school and organised by the Buddhist Association as an honorary ceremony to appreciate the teachers of the school.
XbotiX 2017
Students from the Robotics Club of S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela participated at the ‘XbotiX2017’ which was held at Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Galle on 4th of October 2017.
XbotiX 2017 is the robotic competition organized by Electrical and Information Engineering Society (EIES) in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch, IET Ruhuna Chapter and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Student Society (MMESS). It is an event in which the best young minds in the country compete head to head to accomplish a unique goal using self-designed robots.
Children's Day
The Children's Day was held on October 2nd, 2017 to commemorate the Worlds Children's Day. Many events were organized towards the celebration of this special day through games, entertainment and gifts for the children.
Colours Awarding Ceremony - Shooting
Kavindu Thivanka and Uzman Jiffry of S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela were presented with School Colours for their outstanding performance in Shooting by the Sri Lanka Schools Shooting Sports Association. The Colours Award Ceremony was held at Nalanda College, Colombo on 29th September 2017.
Reading Day
A reading day was organized to celebrate the international reading day on the 26th of September 2017.
W.T. Keble Memorial Soccer Encounter
The W.T. Keble Memorial Soccer Encounter was held on Saturday, 23rd September, 2017 at the College Grounds between S. Thomas' Preparatory School (STPS), Kollupitiya and S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela (STCB). In the junior game, STPS beat STBS one, nil. The senior game was won by STC, Bandarawela.
Vani Vizha 2017
The Vani Vizha 2017 was held at the Hindu Cultural Hall, Bandarawela on Saturday the 23rd of September 2017. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. A. Paunanthie B.A. M. Phil, PGDE, M. Ed. Lecturer, Department of Humanities Education, University of Colombo.
New Multimedia Hub
The Class of 1988 (O/L) gifted a state-of-the-art Multimedia Hub spending approximately Rs. 2 million. It was blessed and declared open by the Headmaster, Revd. Christopher Balraj on the 22nd of September 2017.
Kavisha selected for World Archery Youth Championships
Ravien Kavisha Dalpathado of S. Thomas College Bandarawela and a member of the Archery Club of Uva has been picked for the Sri Lanka Archery team to participate in the World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina from the 2nd to the 8th October, 2017. Our heartiest congratulations to Ravien for his outstanding performance in Archery and we wish him all the very best at this international event.

Robofest 2017
A team of 33 students participated at the Robofest 2017, the annual robotic competition organized by the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). The competition was held on November 6, 2017 and it was heartening to witness such a large number of students from STC Bandarawela taking an avid interest in robotics.
Annual Prize Giving
The Annual Prize Giving for the academic year 2016 was held on Friday, 4th August 2017 at the Keble Memorial Hall were students were recognised and rewarded for their academic and extra-curricular feats.
The Chief Guests were Rt. Revd. Dhiloraj Canagasabey, Bishop of Colombo & Chairman Board of Governors S. Thomas’ Colleges and Mrs. Harshini Canagasabey. The vote of thanks proposer was Dr. Neranjan Dissanayake, a distinguished alumnus of STCB and seconded by Rashmi S. Ediriweera, the College Head Prefect.

New Mathematical Laboratory
A new Mathematical Laboratory was declared open on July 17th, 2017 by Dr. Udaya Chinthaka Jayathilake, Department of Mathematics, University of Moratuwa. Dr. Jayathilake also conducted a motivational seminar titled "Biking4Maths" for the mathematical students of STC Bandarawela and was well received.
Kalai Vizha 2017
The Kalai Vizha programme organised by the Tamil Literary Association was held on 15th July 2017 at 9.00 am at the Keble Memorial Hall. The Chief Guest was Professor Rameez Abdullah, Head of the Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts & Culture, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
The students were able to demonstrate their talents through drama, dance, song and celebrate this Tamil cultural event successfully.

Bakthi Gee Recital
The Bakthi Gee Recital was organised by the Buddhist Association and held at the Sri Pushparama Viharaya, Bandarawela on July 6th, 2017.
Students and staff took part in this recital and a large gathering were present to witness this solemn event.
Milad-Un-Nabi 2017
The Milad-Un-Nabi was celebrated on Saturday 1st July 2017 at the Keble Memorial Hall. The chief guest was Deshabandu Ifthikar Aziz, Managing Director, Lanka Business Consortium (Pvt) Ltd.
The students, staff and parents were entertained to many songs, speeches and drama that were well presented by the junior and senior students of the Islamic Society.

English Language Workshop
An English language workshop was conducted at S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela on June 24th, 2017 for English teachers from Bandarawela. The progamme was conducted by English Language Fellow Trinidad Hernandez of the English Language Programs and US Department of State.
All attendees found the workshop very useful and beneficial towards their teaching career.
Mrs. Aruni Peiris, Cultural Affairs Assistant, American Center, Colombo was the coordinator of this programme.
Educational Exhibition
The Celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee of S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela concluded with a three day Educational Exhibition on May 18, 19th and 20th, 2017. The exhibition was declared opened by Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and the participation of many distinguished personalities. The Chief Guest for the closing ceremony was Hon. Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Chief Minister of the Uva Province.
A special commemorative stamp and a special commemorative cover was also issued to mark the Anniversary of the College.
Approximately 25,000 students from schools in Uva participated at this exhibition.

Easter Musical Worship
The Easter Musical Worship was held on Sunday 7th May 2017 at the Keble Memorial Hall on the theme "Divine Exchange". The senior, junior and staff choir took part in this service and much emphasis was paid on the divinely ordained exchange of Christ on the cross for the sins of all mankind and on his glorious resurrection.

Uva Thomian Cricket Encounter
The Uva Thomian Cricket Encounter was held on 4th March 2017 at the Municipal Council Grounds, Bandarawela. The chief guests were Mr. R. Renganathan, Managing Director/CEO Life, Ceylinco Insurance PLC, Member of the Board of Governors S. Thomas’ Colleges and Mrs. Tania Renganathan. The guest of honour was Hon. Chaminda Wijesiri, Badulla District Member of Parliament.
S. Thomas' College Bandarawela beat Gurutalawa convincingly and regained the SLA Ratnayake-Patrick Gunawardane trophy.
Primary Sports Meet
The Primary Sport Meet was held on Thursday 23rd February 2017 at the College grounds. The primary school children took part in many athletic events and also showed off their drill display, march past, gymnatics and were well received. The chief guest was Mrs. Nelum De Alwis, Principal of Hillwood College, Kandy.
Annual Inter-house Sports Meet
The Annual Inter-house Sport Meet was held on Thursday 9th February 2017 at the College grounds amidst a large crowd of students, staff, parents and old boys.
The chief guests for the occasion were Captain B.M.K.K. Basnayake, RWP, RSP & Bar, USP, psc, Registrar, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Mrs. Thulya Basnayake.
English Day 2017
The Engish Day was held on the 28th of January 2017 at the Keble Memorial hall. Mrs. Kamala Wijeratne, Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Humanities Education, University of Colombo graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The children of S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela displayed their talents in English through drama, song and speech. The event was well received by all present.

Founder's Day 2017
The Founder's Day was celebrated through an Eucharistic Celebration to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela on Friday the 20th of January 2017 at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. The Service was officiated by Rt. Revd. Kumara Illangasinghe, Bishop Emeritus of Kurunegala.
Several past teachers and pupils were present at this memorable occasion and the service was followed by a general assembly at the Keble Memorial Hall.
